THE TRANSFORMATION INTO E-BIKE

With the installation of the kit, the CIAO loses its moped characteristic as the endothermic unit is removed; it is therefore downgraded to a pedal-assisted electric bicycle and, more precisely, to a velocipede, given that both the power (250W) and the max speed (25 km/h) make the e-bike fall into this type of vehicle (according to the UNI EN 15194:2018 standard). The category in which the e-bike falls makes it usable also in all the city cycle paths. For structural modifications made to the frame, the modification to an e-bike is irreversible..

UNI EN 15194:2018 / PATENT

The CIAO frame, modified and set up with the mechanical components of our conversion kit, passed the fatigue tests required by the "UNI EN 15194:2018 - Pedal-assisted electric cycles - EPAC bicycles" standard and was therefore suitable for circulation . The electrical part has passed the EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) test provided for in Appendix "C" of the same Standard. All tests were carried out and certified at ACCREDIA accredited testing laboratories.

Following the passing of the tests, on 10/14/2022 the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy issued the utility model patent on the conversion kit to Ambra Italia, with effect from 02/02/2021, recognizing its peculiarities techniques and respect for the original Ciao design.

ON WHICH MODELS CAN IT BE INSTALLED

The Kit can be installed on all Ciao series. However, we recommend the modification to an e-bike from the Ciao R2 series from 1974 onwards. Ciao from previous series must be preliminarily evaluated together with the customer. For the series with alloy wheels, the front wheel must be replaced with a spoked one, while the complete rear axle is installed with the modification kit. The Kit is specifically designed on the Ciao frame geometries, therefore it cannot be installed on other moped models.

PLATES AND DOCUMENTATION

For Italian territory: the Ciao must NOT be registered. For vehicles registered from 2006 onwards, it is sufficient to suspend the license plate at any ACI branch.
The Piaggio logbook is not necessary. It demonstrates lawful possession of the vehicle, but there are many CIAOs abandoned in garages and cellars, for which the owners no longer have the registration document because they have lost it, but which are, obviously, lawfully owned. However, it is important that the frame has the Piaggio factory stamp so that its originality is unmistakable.

TECHNICAL FEATURES OF THE KIT

USE: urban and extra-urban, on predominantly flat or moderately sloped terrain and roads. In these conditions it expresses its best and allows you to use the e-bike with a slow, soft pedaling and without any effort. Even uphill the kit behaves decently, in such conditions you have to help the traction with the pedals in a more marked, but still not tiring, way.

WEIGHT: 37.2 Kg (for Ciao type PX), approximately 3 Kg less than the 40 Kg dry declared for the Ciao by the Piaggio manufacturer.

ASSISTANCE: The assistance comes into operation as soon as the pedals are moved and can be adjusted in power (max 250W/32-45Nm) and speed, up to 25 km/h.

AUXILIARY SERVICES: Lights and horn: 12 V DC - USB socket to replace the fuel cap for charging smartphones.

EXTRA-URBAN AUTONOMY: approximately 35/38 KM with 36V - 17.5 Ah test batteries, on flat or low-slope extra-urban roads. 40/42 km with 36v 21 Ah batteries. Tests carried out with a driver weighing approximately 80 kg. We currently install 24 and 25 A/h batteries, so the autonomy is even greater.

CITY AUTONOMY: approximately 25/30 km with the same conditions (It can vary based on various factors: morphology of the territory, weight of the driver, number of stops and starts).

BATTERY: removable and rechargeable with a normal 220 V AC socket. Charging times: 4/6 hours.

COMPONENTS REMOVED OR REPLACED ON THE CIAO: Endothermic engine, coil, exhaust pipe, transmission belt, rear axle complete with tyre, side panels, footrest of the chassis cradle; handlebar levers and grips; horn and headlight bulbs. The rear disc braking system is also installed.

WHO CAN INSTALL THE KIT

We install the Kit in our Authorized Workshops (list visible here:) As company policy, in our Authorized Workshops we install the e-bike modification only on perfectly preserved Ciaos or, if necessary, restored by us as new.

The kits purchased online can instead be installed by a workshop specializing in motorbike/E-Bike repairs to the customer's liking, at his/her care and expense.

PRICE

The Kit, including installation carried out at our Authorized Workshops, has a final price, based on the Ciao model, starting from 3,050.00 euros.

As company policy, in our Authorized Workshops, we install the e-bike modification only on perfectly preserved Ciaos or, if necessary, restored by us as new.

The cost of any new restoration varies depending on the interventions that are necessary, based on the model and the state of conservation in which the vehicle is found. In this case, we recommend making a targeted estimate on the vehicle, which can also be processed remotely. This is an important modification, including a structural one, usually combined with a restoration operation. Therefore, the best way is to contact us, without any obligation, in order to share the best solution for each Ciao and develop a targeted quote for the vehicle.

We are available to our customers to provide advice, suggestions and look together for the best solution to transform their CIAO into a truly unique piece, a precious and rare collector's item.

Almost all the models visible on our site have also been completely restored by us.

The price of the Kit purchased online is €2,490.00.
