Interview with a technician: what is it like to work on an electric Ciao?
06 January 2026

Collecting the experiences of those who transform Ciao Piaggio into e-bikes every day is a way to tell the heart of the Ambra Italia project: passionate, competent people, capable of giving new life to a historic vehicle with craftsmanship and an eye to the future. Today we are in Pavia, where we interviewed Giuseppe and Andrea of AG Moto, one of our Authorized Workshops. Here's what they told us.

1. Can you tell us who you are and what kind of workshop you manage (or work in)?

Hi, we are Giuseppe and Andrea, together we run a motorcycle repair shop: AG Moto, founded in Pavia in 2014, after more than ten years of experience as employees at the Piaggio Center Bergamini Moto, also in Pavia.

2. How long have you been collaborating with Ambra Italia? How did you learn about the project?

We have been collaborating with Ambra Italia for about three years. We discovered the project through social media and, as restoration enthusiasts and loyal to the brand, we were immediately interested.

3. Have you ever worked on a Ciao before joining the Ambra network?

The Ciao was our first motor vehicle , the one with which we started repairing vehicles at the age of thirteen, in the garage at home. Since then, also thanks to the years of collaboration with the Piaggio group, we have continued to repair them, restore them and – today – transform them into e-bikes.

4. How was your first experience with the transformation of a Ciao into an e-bike?

The first experience, as well as the last, was very exciting. Knowing the vehicle well, we did not have any particular problems either on the mechanical or electrical part. In addition, we were followed closely by the creator of the project, Mr. Tiberio.

5. What is the most fascinating or delicate phase of the job in your opinion?

The most fascinating phase is the one in which you start to reassemble the first components: every screw, every part cleaned, polished, repainted, gives satisfaction. The most delicate one, on the other hand, is undoubtedly the electrical connection, which requires precision and attention to detail.

6. What do you think about the quality of the kits provided? Are they easy to install?

The quality is good: all parts are carefully checked and tested before shipping. Assembly has a medium difficulty, but thanks to the detailed manuals the complications are greatly reduced.

7. Are there any tricks or tricks that you have learned with experience?

With each transformation you learn something new. Assembly times are reduced, and small tricks are discovered to quickly solve any problems that may arise.

8. Have you ever had a particular or curious case to tell?

The most disastrous Ciao we have transformed was the very first one. It had been abandoned for years, in very bad condition: screws stuck, headlights fixed on the fenders, rusty luggage rack... The disassembly and restoration took a lot of work. But in the end, an immense satisfaction!

9. What do you like most about working on a historic vehicle that comes back to life?

The Ciao is an Italian symbol, like the Vespa or the Fiat 500.It has accompanied generations of young people for three decades. Seeing it rise again and knowing that it will continue to live, even in an electric version, is a great emotion.

10. What do customers say when they pick up their transformed Ciao?

The joy and enthusiasm of customers are evident right from the processing stages, but when the vehicle is delivered, they become contagious. Despite the investment required, the customer's smile repays everything.

11. Why do you think this type of work is different from a regular repair?

Because a normal repair rarely gives you back the same emotional involvement. Here, however, we are talking about memories, passion, a vehicle that comes back to life in a new way.

12. How do you see the future of light mobility and electric transformation?

The future will certainly go electric, but we think that the internal combustion engine will not disappear anytime soon. New power solutions, such as hydrogen, could arrive.

13. Do you have a dream or a project that you would like to realize in this area?

After the electric Ciao, AG Moto dreams of creating an electric Vespa. It would be another important step in the history of Made in Italy light mobility.

14. Is there anything you would like to say to blog readers or clients who are thinking about turning their Ciao?

Dear readers, if the Ciao has meant something to you, what are you waiting for? Bring it back to life! We are sure you will be satisfied.
